Description
After two explosive studio albums, PHØNIX now presents their first live album, LIVE 2025! The album will be released on April 24. through Ingebrigt Håker Flaten’s ever-growing record label, Sonic Transmissions Records. This live album marks the band’s final release with the label—a fantastic collaboration that now concludes with a bang!
2025 became a breakthrough year for PHØNIX on the Norwegian and European jazz scene. LIVE 2025 is a collection of recordings from the band’s tour that year. The selected recordings are taken from Victoria National Jazz Scene in Oslo, Nattjazz in Bergen, and Jazzfest in Trondheim. This album serves as a time capsule for PHØNIX, capturing the trio as they look both backward and forward while remaining firmly rooted in the present of their own music. For the setlist, PHØNIX included
“Soulpower” from their first album, but in a heavily reworked version compared to the studio recording. They also performed the brand-new, unreleased “Dancing on Mercury,” the title track of the band’s upcoming studio album. The majority of the material in the live concerts, however, is drawn from Intergalloptic Roundtrip, their second studio album.
LIVE 2025 kicks off with a loud crash of “Intergalloptic,” setting the tone for the rest of the album. Feedback, rumble, applause! This is live—raw and unpolished, at times on the verge of overload, driven by sheer energy and intent. The songs have matured, and the band plays freely with the material and solo sections, with near- telepathic spontaneous modulations in harmony and rhythm. The album captures the sound of a band that has established its identity, while constantly exploring its own sonic world.
Guitarist Emil Storløkken Åse, baritone saxophonist Jenny Frøysa, and drummer August Glännestrand are all rising stars on the Norwegian music scene. They thrive in a range of projects such as Trondheim Jazz
Orchestra, Han Gaiden, and Liv Andrea Hauge Trio. When these three forces come together as PHØNIX, they create something magical—an explosive musical unit that delivers groovy riffs, intense interplay, and
electric energy to the world.
