Description

Trombonist Jeb Bishop and drummer Tim Daisy have been creating sound together in various capacities since meeting in Chicago in the late 1990s. Some of the more regular groups they worked in together include the seminal Vandermark 5 quintet, the collaborative quartet The Engines, and Tim’s own Trio Red Space, which featured the late, great Mars Williams on reeds. More recently, they have collaborated with violinist Mark Feldman, releasing an original set of trio music titled Begin, Again on Daisy’s Relay Recordings imprint, as well as performing in a quartet configuration that included Andrew Clinkman on guitar and Brittany Carlson on bass.

Dubuque Duets presents a live set from September 2024, recorded at the Smokestack club near the shores of the Mississippi River. When Tim was invited to bring in a group for a special event the club was hosting, he jumped at the chance to continue the duo dialogue with Jeb—a format they have presented off and on since the early 2000s. The result is a focused and engaging fifty minutes of improvisation, grounded in deep listening and flowing in and out of a wide range of sonic landscapes with the intention, clarity, and patience that over three decades of working together can provide. Made in Dubuque, IA.
